From Pre-Conception, Through Pregnancy to Birth

From pre-conception through pregnancy, and for mothers, babies and the whole family.

  • Metamorphic Technique is completely safe for pregnant women, babies and children.
  • Many women who have received Metamorphic Technique feel it contributed to the ease of their pregnancy.
  • Children appear to become more self-confident, positive and seem to have more clarity. Behavioural problems appear to become a thing of the past.
  • Metamorphic Technique can be taught to parents so they can use it on their children and each other.

Importance of the Spinal Reflexes

A very gentle touch is applied along what are known as the ‘spinal reflexes’ of the feet, hands and head. The practitioner is touching a map of our time in the womb where we seeded things that later in life could block us, like illness, limiting beliefs and patterns of behaviour that are not beneficial to us.

These patterns may be formed, for example, if the mother experiences a shock or strong emotion during this period of time and these experiences may be picked up by the baby. The practitioner is acting as a catalyst to the recipient’s life force, dissolving their patterns at the root… permanently.

It makes no claims to treating anything. It is not a therapy. The practitioner acts merely as the catalyst, like the earth to the seed. The idea of the technique is not to identify with symptoms no matter how severe they may appear to be. Robert St. John was a British naturopath and reflexologist who observed that when the focus is put on the treatment of symptoms they often go away, but new ones develop or the old ones return. He treated a baby with Down’s syndrome and showed the child’s mother how to do the technique, which was given weekly. He treated the child, without labeling her. By treating her in this way they were treating the underlying patterns instead of treating a condition. She moved out of her Down’s syndrome pattern as a result. St. John would apparently say, “the more attention you give to your patterns, the less room they have to go away.”
Gaston St. Pierre furthered St. John’s work and founded the Metamorphic Association.

Stress From Conception Throughout the Prenatal Period

It is a well known fact that babies experience a lot of stress and trauma at birth. But what is a little less known and understood are the stresses experienced at conception and throughout the prenatal period.  The effects of the time in the womb and the birth process itself can remain in our system for a long time. This can positively or negatively influence the character of the child for life. These influences are stored in our body and brain. It is well known that the thinking functions of the brain have not matured at the time of birth, however the sensory receptors and emotional receptors are functioning and the baby is very open to the moods around it. But these patterns that are formed have not had enough time to cement themselves in the way they do over time with adults. Their minds are not strong enough and therefore they do not resist transformation at the mental or energetic level, so patterns shift very quickly.

Clearing of Old Patterns

It may happen that while clearing a pattern an earlier behavioural pattern occurs. So a child of ten after, receiving a session may act like a baby. The parents need only address what the child presents and nurture this child as if he or she were a baby, allowing the child to get what they need.

These episodes usually do not last long as what was not completed in the earlier stage of life completes itself.

Robert St. John, the founder of Prenatal Therapy (later termed Metamorphosis), thought that the degree of stress at conception determined how creative we are in our coming into life as well as how we correspond with life. That is to say that our experience in the womb, childhood and in fact all of life’s experiences and traumas are actually secondary stressors. They are secondary because the level of tension present within, from conception, determines how we are able to cope with our external environment. This degree of stress will impact the child throughout the period of pregnancy and on through to birth.

Accessing the Root Cause of Patterns

Whilst working as a naturopath, Robert St. John noticed that focus was on the removal of symptoms and that as symptoms were treated, and would appear to leave, they would often resurface or new ones would take their place. It was whilst practicing reflexology that St. John found that working on the spinal reflexes of the feet, certain areas corresponded with psychological and physical memories from the prenatal period. He noticed that by working this prenatal pattern both physical and psychological changes were occurring within his clients. That is to say, the underlying causes of problems were being accessed and dissolved at the root of the cause. This is because the underlying issue was not being addressed with naturopathy or other means, and that the underlying issues would quite often stem from stresses in the womb. By releasing the stresses in the spine he was also releasing the stresses from the prenatal period, their origin, not just the symptomatic expression, removing them permanently. Because we are working at the level of where our stress patterns originated, the changes are permanent because the work addresses the underlying issues not the symptomatic expression.

Developing with more ease

Metamorphic Technique addresses the importance of the gestation period and stress patterns which are developed in the womb. It has been shown to access this time period thereby enabling us to release these limiting patterns and blockages and attitudes that prevent us from reaching our full potential and living fully in the present moment.

Working with a child in the womb is important as any stress and tension levels can be released before they impact the child’s consciousness. This will enable the child to release stress and tension patterns more easily once born and develop with more ease.

Children who display signs of hyperactivity, emotional problems, learning disabilities and physical challenges will all benefit from this.

If the mother is receiving Metamorphic Technique whilst pregnant she will also benefit by releasing her own stress patterns at the same time, thus easing her pregnancy and labour and often creating a more relaxed and natural birth.

Gaston St. Pierre

Gaston who studied extensively with Robert St. John during the 1970′s, saw the potential for the development of a practical tool for self-healing and the realization of one’s potential that could be easily integrated into everyday life. He therefore went on to further develop the work and created the term Metamorphic Technique to differentiate the new direction the work was now taking.
